REVIEW

by Roddy Phillips,
Press and Journal

If you have been to Tuscany you’ll appreciate how brilliantly Stuart Johnstone has captured the landscape and the old hill towns. Some of the photographs on show may look as if they have slipped from a high quality calendar but they have a resonance and a detail far beyond the decorative.

Sponsored by Technip this excellent show finds Stuart focusing on three diverse themes, the Italian landscape, architecture and nature.

The consistent use of watercolour paper however, creates a coherency and a distinctly fine art element to the work. In fact Stuart’s collection of remarkable flower photographs demands closer inspection.

This is the key to Stuart’s work, a painstaking perfectionism that transforms his pictures into works of art.
